COVID-19 has exposed significant weaknesses, fissures and vulnerabilities in many supply chains around the globe. New Zealand has experienced disruption in both exporting and importing activities causing significant economic losses.
While international trade remains crucial for NZ businesses, they may choose to re-evaluate reliance of critical supplies on certain countries, or a single external source. They may opt to shorten far-flung global supply chains and make them more regional to exert more control. Such changes are likely to have significant implications for NZ businesses.
Hosted by the Waikato Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Waikato Management School, this webinar will bring together four experts to discuss possible scenarios that are likely to unfold in the realignment of supply chains, and their implications for NZ business.
- Anna Strutt (Professor of Economics, Waikato Management School; expert on global trade): Global Trade Impacts
- Mia Mikic (Director of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, United Nations ESCAP): Asia-Pacific Perspectives
- Frank Scrimgeour (Professor Frank Scrimgeour, Waikato Management School; expert in NZ business economics): NZ Challenges
- Lain Jager (former CEO Zespri International): Governance and Management Considerations at the Firm level
