Manaaki Kaimai Mamaku is a co-governed nonprofit restoring the mauri of the Kaimai Mamaku forest and its catchments.

More than a reduction in pest animals and pest plants, restoring mauri (life force) means improving the health of the entire ecosystem for future generations. We want to see more people working in conservation, more taonga in the forest, and more people thriving because of this.

Manaaki Kaimai Mamaku has four key workstreams:
1. Predator Free 2050. Seven of our eight projects focus on pest/predator animal control.
2. Pest plant control and native afforestation. One project’s core focus is on pest plant control and half of the projects have added native planting to their work plans.
3. Knowledge sharing and collaboration. To fast-track success the project focuses on sharing knowledge and enduring partnerships.
4. Enabling kaitiakitanga. As a co-governed entity, our work enables and uplifts matauranga within conservation.
