The Commerce Commission plays an important role in ensuring New Zealand’s markets are competitive, consumers and businesses are informed and empowered, and their interests protected, and sectors with little or no competition are appropriately regulated.
Brought to you in partnership with Westpac New Zealand, this session will provide clear insight into how the Commerce Commission operates, what it expects from Waikato businesses and key obligations under the Fair Trading, Commerce and Consumer Guarantees Acts. The presenters will also share current trends emerging from consumer complaints and investigations, and outline the Commission's enforcement priorities.

PRESENTERS - Commerce Commission New Zealand
Bryan Chapple - Commissioner
Bryan is an experienced economist and senior public sector leader, with a deep understanding of the Aotearoa New Zealand economy and the role of regulation.
He was Deputy Secretary (Growth and Macroeconomics) at the New Zealand Treasury from 2017 until joining the Commission in 2022. In that role, Bryan led the Treasury's work on micro- and macro-economic policy, including regulatory strategy.
Vanessa Horne - GM Competition, Fair Trading & Credit
Vanessa manages the Commission's Competition, Fair Trading and Credit Branch. She is a highly experienced and capable leader in strategy, operations, policy development, service design, and law.
Prior to the Commission, she was the Group Manager, Overseas Investment Office at Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), and she has extensive ministerial and legislative experience.
Vanessa also has a strong track record of growing and developing people and building strong, impactful teams through periods of change.
