Join us at our next Inspire event as we welcome Alex Pledger, former NZ professional basketball player, who will share his powerful story of resilience through his career and his battle with bowel cancer.
About Alex:
Alex Pledger, a former pro basketball player, made his mark in the NBL and NZNBL, winning multiple championships, including four with the NZ Breakers. He earned MVP and finals MVP honors and represented the NZ Tall Blacks in two world cups. In 2021, just before his 34th birthday, he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. After 18 months of treatment, he was declared cancer-free and has remained so since. Pledger returned for a final season with the Southland Sharks in 2023 before retiring. Now an ambassador for Bowel Cancer NZ, he raises awareness, especially among men, about recognising symptoms early.
