Lugtons Round the Bridges is a proud Hamilton event that continues to grow and evolve while remaining firmly grounded in the community it serves. Each year, thousands of people come together to celebrate movement, connection and wellbeing through one of the Waikato’s most inclusive, enduring and accessible community events.
Established by the Hamilton Harriers Club in 1945, Round the Bridges was founded to encourage participation, enjoyment and excellence in running and walking. As we look to the future, our focus is not just on delivering a successful event, but on ensuring we remain accessible, affordable, and relevant for generations to come, inspiring participation across all ages — particularly young people — creating positive, memorable first experiences in sport and physical activity.
Community remains at the heart of everything we do. The event is open to all ages and abilities, offering multiple distances and formats that encourage participation at every level and every entrant receives a finisher medal and the shared sense of achievement that defines this event.
The course itself reflects our long-term love of this city. Starting and finishing on the main street, the route showcases our river, gardens, and iconic bridges — reinforcing local pride and providing participants with an experience that is unmistakably Hamilton.
As one of the longest-running and most beloved events in NZ, we want to ensure everyone feels welcome, valued, and celebrated.
We aim to keep registration costs low, to embrace our community at every level, and to continue to bring people together for something that’s more than a run — It’s a feel-good, do-good, move-your-body kind of event!
