SUMMARY:Member Event: HANRAD Gallery Artist Talk - Richard Landers
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Hanrad Gallery \n\n"Art of Transparency"\n\nRichard Landers Solo Exhibition\n\nArtist Talk: Saturday 7 March 2026\, 1:00pm\n\nHANRAD Gallery\, 137A Alexandra Street\, Hamilton CBD\, New Zealand\n\n\n\nHANRAD Gallery is pleased to present Art of Transparency\, a major exhibition by renowned New Zealand glass artist Richard Landers. The exhibition brings together a refined body of sculptural glass works that explore light\, form\, and spatial perception through clarity\, restraint\, and precision.\n\n\n\nWith a career spanning more than four decades\, Landers is a founding member of the Art Glass Association of New Zealand and is widely recognised for his distinctive approach to glass as both material and medium. Working primarily with laminated and recycled float glass often repurposed from old window panes Landers creates minimalist sculptural forms that engage directly with natural light and their surrounding environment.\n\n\n\nIn Art of Transparency\, transparency is not treated as absence\, but as an active condition one that allows light\, reflection\, refraction\, and negative space to become the true subject of the work. Through the repetition of simple geometric forms\, the sculptures subtly absorb and reflect their surroundings\, borrowing colour and tone from shifting light conditions. What appears colourless becomes animated\; what seems static becomes quietly dynamic.\n\n\n\nLanders' practice is deeply informed by his long-standing engagement with architectural glass\, including leaded glass installations for heritage villas\, churches\, and contemporary homes. This architectural sensibility is evident throughout the exhibition\, where the works negotiate space with calm authority and invite viewers to slow down and engage in attentive looking.\n\n\n\nThe exhibition opens with a public opening event on Thursday 29 January 2026\, from 5:30 8:00pm\, and continues until 7 March 2026. An artist talk on Saturday 7 March 2026 at 1:00pm will offer audiences deeper insight into Landers' practice\, process\, and sustained exploration of light and transparency.
