SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Property Tax Traps
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this timely Lunch & Learn session and hear from experienced Deloitte Tax Partners\, Susan Wynne & Andrea Scatchard as they discuss topical issues around property and tax.\n\n \n\nThe tax rules applying to property have been a focus of the Government and Inland Revenue in recent years. The bright-line test and the main home exclusion have been completely rewritten and residential properties are now subject to a complex set of tax rules. GST matters are still causing problems for parties to land transactions as land may be treated as taxable\, zero-rated or exempt for GST purposes. This property tax update will provide an overview of the recent changes to the income tax rules applying to land\, common GST issues to look out for\, recent Inland Revenue developments\, and upcoming law changes in this area. Looking ahead there will be discussion on how the 2023 general election could impact property taxation. \n\n\n\nAndrea Scatchard is a Tax Partner covering the Deloitte Central North Island region. She lives in Katikati and has clients across the wider region including Tauranga\, Rotorua\, Whakatane\, and Hamilton. Andrea has over 30 years of tax experience and while she is a general tax expert\, she also specialises in both GST and employment taxes. She works closely with the wider Deloitte team in the Rotorua office including on a number of iwi clients. \n\n \n\nSusan Wynne is a Tax Partner based at the Deloitte Hamilton office. Susan brings with her over 20 years of tax experience\, she is a business tax specialist who deals with a wide range of tax issues and clients. Susan has been significantly involved in the recent property tax changes advising clients and Deloitte internally on their impact.\n\n\n\nRegistrations are required to attend.
