SUMMARY:Emerge with Chlöe Swarbrick
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to announce Chl e Swarbrick as our speaker for the first Emerge event.\n\nEmerge\, the latest event series from the Waikato Chambers of Commerce\, is designed to inspire the next generation of the Waikato business community. If you are in the first 2-7 years of your career and want to get out of your comfort zone and away from your desk\, this is for you. Join us for a light brekkie and hear from Aotearoa's youngest MP in 40 years\, brought to you by McCaw Lewis Lawyers.\n\n\n\nChl e grew up in an Auckland family who raised her on a diet of robust and challenging discussion\, in a community that showed her that inequality and injustice were a daily reality for too many New Zealanders.\n\nShe has been a law student\, journalist\, business owner and a community project leader. When interviewing politicians of all stripes on daily issues she found that too often they had become out of sync with the orbit of everyday peoples lives. She couldn't see herself\, her friends\, or her wh nau in politics.\n\nSo\, in 2016 Chl e did what any reasonable\, disillusioned 22 year old would do. She ran to be the Mayor of Auckland. A year later\, Chl e stood as a Green Party candidate\, and was elected into Parliament in 2017. Last year\, Chl e was elected as MP for Auckland Central\, making her Aotearoa's youngest MP in over 40 years.\n\nShe is focused on opening up parliament and politics to all New Zealanders\, so they can see that our institutions are just made up of people making decisions. Chl e wants to shine light on the privilege and discrimination that has kept too many people away from politics until now.\n\n\n\nGuided by the core values of\, Manaakitanga\, Kotahitanga and Wh ia te iti Kahurangi\, Waikato-based law firm McCaw Lewis has partnered with the Chamber of Commerce for this kaupapa and through this lens\, have thrown their support behind the Emerge event series. Executive Director Renika Siciliano says: "Relationships are integral to everything we do. Being able to foster and support those\, particularly in our professional lives\, is vital to our hauora. The Emerge events are an opportunity for people forging their careers to establish connections\, share experiences and step away from their desks."
